So I’ve seen all of the films in this franchise and re-watched this one a couple of days ago.
So the story is that a group of American teenagers are boarding their flight to Paris along with their two teachers and one of them has a premonition that the plane is going to crash. When I say premonition, it’s very detailed he actually sees and feels everything as it happens. Alex, played by Devon Sawa then completely freaks out (as you would do..) he gets himself and six others thrown off the plane and they see the fatal crash from the airport window.
Naturally everyone thinks Alex had something to do with the crash and their fellow classmates and teacher all meeting their ends. Strange things then begin the happen after the events of the crash and they learn that you can’t cheat death…
It’s a typical young american teen movie when it comes to the acting so it’s not the best. Devon Sawa, is average as the lead character Alex, personally I think the rest of the cast were all better actors than him. Ali Later, plays Clear (who’s name I thought was Claire until I looked on IMDB) the misfit that falls for Alex. Sean William Scott, plays Billy who isn’t really a strong character in this film, it’s a shame really because Sean can act a lot better than the others.
If you’re expecting suspense, don’t bother, you see everyone’s demise as it happens and the movie is pretty dated nowadays. The plot is still interesting and as a franchise it’s worth a watch just out of interest. It’s still going to stand as a ‘cult classic’ because it was something different at the time like Scream.
The effects are alright given it was release in 2000 the plane crash was pretty good and the deaths to follow are nice and gory. I can’t say my favorite death without giving away who dies so I’ll keep quiet here but if you wanna know comment and for those of you that don’t, stay out of the comments.
Overall it’s a good action/slasher film and has it’s own (now slightly less but back then…) original plot. There’s a few creepy scenes but not as much suspense as I’d like.
Perfect Popcorn Score – I’m giving it a seven only because of it’s plot, it’s a good idea but better acting and script was needed to make it work… 7/10
