The Crow [Reboot]

the crow

This is one of my favorite films and I will get around to reviewing it properly for you guys some day soon.  I think they need to leave this film alone now.  The first, original film in 1994 was a pure classic however, like most classics it spawned an array of crappy sequels in this case three. There was also a television adaption that judging by the reviews was actually pretty decent so, I might give it a go one day…

This has the exact same story line plot showing on IMDb as the first original film so it’s a reboot.  The only cast showing is that Jason Momoa is rumored to play the lead role of Eric Draven/The Crow.

As much as I like Jason Momoa, he’s got some big boots to fill because Brandon Lee played this role perfectly before his tragic and untimely death during filming.  I don’t personally feel that he’s right for this part because he’s an intimidating looking guy from the off and I just don’t see how that will work with this character.  I think the below actors would be better…

Jared Leto

jaredleto

Leto is an Oscar winning actor and has played various roles such as, The Joker. He’s also a musician so I think he’d do this role justice and fit it perfectly.

Jared Padalecki

jaredp

Best known for his role as Sam in Supernatural he’s got that ‘brooding’ look down and I think he could also be a contender for this role.

Taylor Kitsch

Friday Night Lights

Taylor has got some series acting range, I’d defiantly recommend catching the latest series of True Detective too see what I mean. He’d bring his range to this part and I think it’s the big break he needs.

I think the late Heath Ledger would have been the perfect choice to bring Eric Draven back onto our screen but sadly we will never get to see this…

A lot of actors, such as Bradley Cooper, have actually dropped out of playing this role due to crew and cast members of the original saying the set was cursed.  There was some seriously bad and strange weather and a member of the crew suffered from burns, then sadly the death of Brandon Lee from a real bullet been shot rather than a blank.

I think they’d need to cast the part of Sarah carefully as she’s a key part to making this film work.  Here are some actresses I think could be good for the role…

Chloe Moretz

chloem

She’s a great young actress and already has a lot of movies under her belt.  I think her acting in Let Me In and Carrie make her a wise choice for the part of Sarah.

Abigail Breslin

abib

She won my heart as Little Miss Sunshine and has managed to land herself some very big roles ever since, she’d play Sarah very well.

Freya Tingley

With previous roles in both Hemlock Grove and Once Upon A Time this big screen role would cement her movie career as it’s well deserved.

Who do you think should be cast in this reboot? Comment below…

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider [Reboot] (2018)

lc1

Based on the brilliant video game, Lara Croft is a now iconic character and will be getting a big screen reboot in 2018.  Angelina Jolie famously portrayed the role in the original 2001 movie adaption and it’s 2003 sequel.

As with all reboots there’s a completely new cast and Alicia Vikander will now be playing the role of Lara Croft. I personally think she’ll do it justice, it’s nice too see the role going too an up and coming young actress rather than a big hollywood giant. Alicia hasn’t been on our screens for long and yet she’s already won an Oscar for best supporting actress in The Danish Girl proving she is more than equip to be the next tomb raider.

aw

It’s been described as more of an origin story than the other films, allowing you to connect too the character rather than just being thrown into the action from the off. I’ve looking forward to this, the previous films were watchable but nothing too special, hopefully this will be the first of a new gritter tomb raider franchise.

Do you agree with the choice of actress to play Lara? Feel free to comment…

Charlie’s Angels [Reboot]

I’ll admit, this show was before my time so I never really watched it, even the re-runs as it just looked dated and cheesy.  However, the show does have a relatively good rating on IMDb and some decent reviews, plus it ran for five series so it couldn’t have been that bad right?

Then came the awful 2000 movie staring Cameron DiazDrew Barrymore and Lucy Lui. The movie had a terrible plot and considering the actresses selected, the acting was quite poor. Yet despite this there was actually a sequel which was even worse in 2003.

I bet none of you knew they also tried to reboot the series in 2011. It only lasted the one series (it was that good) and starred, Minka KellyRachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh, I’ve not bothered to watch it and probably never will…

So now Hollywood is trying yet again to reboot this franchise, no cast has been announced however, Elizabeth Banks is set to direct the film.  I’m personally not a massive fan of her previous director/producer films such as Pitch Perfect but they were quite successful box-office wise. The plot has been advised though ‘When Soh Bae turns up applying to be Charlie’s 4th Angel, she is thrown into the deep end immediately, as the other angels are kidnapped by the mysterious Ronny Petankan. With only her nerdy sidekick Nathan Woodhall to help, it is up to Soh to save the angels and save the world before breakfast!’

It sounds as though the film will be aimed at the younger audience judging by the plot and with Banks’ style of film it will more likely be a comedy than a series action flick which is a shame in my opinion.  I mean after Wonder Woman it would be interesting to a Charlie’s Angels film in that same style with us not having seen that before.  I know the series was a comedy but you can have action and comedy without going overboard, like all the jokes we have in Marvel films.

I don’t have anything against Rebel Wilson as a person, she seems lovely however, if she is cast in this movie, I won’t be watching it.  Personally I’d like to see actresses who haven’t yet quite made their mark in film compared with others so…

Blake Lively

Yes, I’ve warned you before, I’m a fan of Blake Lively’s and I personally think she could do this role justice.  She was really good in both Age of Adaline and The Shallows, proving she’s gotten more range in her acting since her Gossip Girl days.

Jessica Stroup

Jessica started out in the reboot of 90210 and was probably the best actress in the show.  She’s since then done more serious roles in The Following and Iron Fist, I’m sure she would fit the role of an angel perfectly.

ely

Elodie Young

You may recognize this French actress in Netflix’s Daredevil as Elektra. Proving she can play a female superhero brilliantly and bagging herself a role in The Defenders I’m sure she can fill the boots of an angel.

The plot did mention a fourth angel and her nerdy sidekick I think this is where the comedy will come from so I think these pair would fit in great…

ak

Arielle Kebbel

She’s been in so many TV shows I’ve lost count, from comedy to drama Arielle just needs a proper big break to give her a boost onto the big screen and have her stay there.

ml

Matthew Lewis

He’s little Neville Longbottom but he was very good in Me, Before you and added some comedy into the film.  Let’s face it he’s got the nerdy, comedy look down but with added ‘British charm’ that might make this role more interesting.

Well there’s my opinions on the cast, it will be a while before anymore news is announced so let’s see what Elizabeth Banks comes up with…

Universals ‘Dark Universe’

Universal-Dark-Universe-logo

So as Disney obtained Marvel back in 2009 and in that same year Warner Bros. made a deal with DC Comics, we now have Universal Studios’ Dark Universe.

This Dark Universe will see those classic ‘Monsters’ brought to life again.  I’m a massive fan of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Mummy and many other of the classic horror films and novels however, have they been done to death

We’ve seen these classics grace our screens in both film and television many times over the years so I’m curious to see what Universal is going to do different…  Just to make you all aware they’re not counting the 2014 film Dracula’s Untold.  The Mummy, will be the first film set in this universe and I will be seeing it and reviewing it very soon.

A cross over of these stories has only recently been done with Penny Dreadful, it started so promising yet, the ending in my opinion lacked sense. It didn’t tie up all of the loose ends sadly… Perhaps The Dark Universe will be better?

What we know so far…

  • The Mummy will be the first in the series of films and it will also feature the character Dr Jekyll, portrayed by Russell Crowe.
  • Dr Jekyll will be part of an organisation called ‘Prodigium’, their mission is too track, study and if necessary destroy evil ‘monsters’.
  • The next film in the series will be ‘Bride of Frankenstein’, set for release around the 14th of February 2019.
  • Johnny Depp is interested in playing the part of The Invisible Man
  • Javier Bardem has been cast to play Frankenstein.
  • There has been no mention of The Wolfman in any of the interviews or articles relating to The Dark Universe.
  • Nowhere has it mentioned Hammer Studios, the origin of these classics, perhaps a deal has already been made?

Overall I’m looking forward too seeing what Universal and their Dark Universe has to offer us.  As mentioned earlier, I’ll be seeing The Mummy very soon so look out for a review in the near future.
